AEROBATICS – is the practice of flying maneuvers involving aircraft attitudes that are not used in normal flight. Aerobatics are performed in airplanes and gliders,small jets designed for aerobatic flights. Exemple of Aerobatics competition: World Aerobatic Championships – Silverstone 2009

AIR RACING – is a sport that involves small aircraft.The first event in air racing history was held on May 23, 1909 – the Prix de Lagatinerie, held at the Port-Aviation airport south of Paris, France. Exemples of International Air Races:  Aero-GP (United Kingdom), Schneider Trophy (United Kingdom), Reno Air Races (Reno, NV,United States).

AEROMODELLING – is the art of making and flying non man-carrying aircraft. The aircraft can be a scale model of a full size aircraft or a design specifically for the hobby. Exemple of aeromodelling competition:  FAI European Aeromodelling Championship.

BALLOONING –  is the activity of flying hot air balloons. The first modern hot air balloon was designed and built in 1960 by Ed Yost. During the flight, the pilot’s only ability to steer the balloon is the ability to climb or descend into wind currents going different directions. Exemple of hot air balloons competition: World Air Games – Torino 2009.

GLIDING – is a recreational activity and competitive sport in which pilots fly unpowered aircraft known as gliders (sailplanes) using rising air to gain altitude or speed. Exemple of Gliding competition: Pribina Cup 2009 – Slovakia.

PARAGLIDING – a paraglider is a free-flying, foot-launched aircraft. The pilot sits in a harness suspended below a fabric wing, whose shape is formed by its suspension lines and the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing. Exemple of competition: World Air Games 2009

HELICOPTERS – today, helicopter uses include transportation, construction, firefighting, search and rescue, military uses and in some cases aerobatics with helicopters, airshow displays.
