This September at Magura Airfield in Cisnadie, The Romanian Aeromodellism Federation, was organizing the 2009 FAI European Championship for Aeromodells. Airsports.tv was there to capture pilots in action. The video will be on our website soon. So don’t miss it.
The event: 16 contestants from 6 different countries (Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark and Russia) were at Cisnadie to perform for this European Championship. The class of aero models was F5B (Motor Gliders). The F5b is a type of remote control electric model aircraft contest that consists of doing as many laps as possible between 2 poles 150 meters apart in 200 seconds followed by 10 minutes of thermalling, and then landing on a 30 meter landing circle. The laps must be made while gliding only, no motor allowed, so the motor is used to rapidly climb and power into the course. To perform at an aeromodelling event it’s not such an easy thing to do. It requires to have good skills to handle the aircraft. The aircraft is gliding till it gets to a certain altitude, than it is started in the air. The accurate, not forced landings count. During 10 minutes flight, the pilots must do as many laps as they can. This flight is taking place in a polygon.
For this year event, Italy went for Gold, as you can see the complete results here.
